I worked for several years as a lecturer in health economics at the University of Birmingham, where I was responsible for the third-year module Econ 210 Health Economics. I produced a `Health Economics Handbook’ for my students on this course, essentially a textbook covering all the material that would be discussed in my lectures. I have lost the original digital manuscript of this book but I discovered that I still have disembodied scanned copies of all the chapters. These are posted below.

Chapter 1 Concepts of efficiency and equity in health economics
Chapter 2 The basics of markets and health-care markets
Chapter 3 Classical welfare economics and market failure in health care I
Chapter 4 Classical welfare economics and market failure in health-care II
Chapter 5 The principal-agent problem and supplier-induced demand
Chapter 6 The microeconomics of economic evaluation of health care I
Chapter 7 The microeconomics of economic evaluation of health care II
Chapter 8 The concept of health capital and household demand for medical care
Chapter 9 Empirical studies of household health investment behaviour
